Upgrade Your Bathroom Without Remodeling

Don’t get discouraged if there isn’t a bathroom remodel in your future! You might just need a little upgrade.

As I’ve shared a bit of our bathroom upgrade on instagram, and thought I would share what why and how we transformed this space without “remodeling”

There are a few reasons why we decided not to do a full remodel of this bathroom. One of them being we couldn’t expand and create any more space - we were stuck with a small bathroom. Secondly - this isn’t our forever home and we didn’t feel like putting 30-60k into the bathroom would be worth it for us or add that much value to our house. So cosmetic remodel is it!!

before

Here is the before photo to really set the tone! This photo was right before the project started - so all the pretty stuff was gone. It was a little cuter than this :)

Our issues with this bathroom:

- not our style

- not relaxing or “spa vibes” I like to call it

- no storage

- feels “medical” to me, and I feel like its just not inviting.

paint

First let’s start with Paint! The most obvious way to freshen up a space is a nice fresh coat. Our walls were a creamy off white/grey color which just made the space look dirty. We ended up going with one of my all time favorite whites - Pure White by Sherwin Williams. This just brightened up the whole room.

vanity / mirror / faucet

We had a vintage style built-in mirror that was not functional for us. The mirror was so small that my husband and I couldn’t both fit in the frame together. We replaced the built in with a sleek black framed mirror. This made the bathroom feel so much bigger and reflects so much light!

We replaced our worthless pedestal sink with a Vanity/sink combo we found from wayfair! I’m not anti pedestal sink, however this is our main floor + “master” bath so we needed storage and counter space. It was a touch more than what I wanted to spend, but I’m so glad we got this one. Our options were limited because our bathroom is on the smaller side and we needed a more shallow vanity. This vanity has two drawers and I added baskets underneath from Schoolhouse to store some extra items.

For the faucet, I chose this Delta Trinsic faucet! This is my favorite line of faucets, so streamlined and modern and the water flow is sooo good.

bathtub

UMM have you ever showered in a clawfoot tub shower? It kinda feels like you’re going to get murdered, and the cold plastic shower liners creeping in and touching you? Yeah. No. We CANCELED this shower and just made it a bath! It worked out for us because we have a shower downstairs and our whole family loves baths! I painted our bathtub my favorite black (Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black) for some contrast and added this modern faucet with a handheld shower attachment to make bath time with Honey (our pup) a lot easier.

lighting / hardware / wallpaper

Our ceiling is really high in the bathroom so I thought heck - let’s do a chandelier! I stumbled across this one on Allmodern and I fell in love!! It looks so expensive and is only $200. For the wall sconces- I wanted something really minimal and was having a hard time finding something not too globe-y to not clash with the chandelier. I found these and they’re so perfect!

For hardware I used Schoolhouse Electric’s Maxwell Towel Ring and Robe hooks! I love the oversized modern elements and wanted something high quality.

I wanted to add a fun quirk to the bathroom, and decided to wallpaper the ceiling with this Koi Wallpaper made by Harlequin! It’s our favorite and it makes us laugh. I got the wallpaper from the best wallpaper shop in Portland, Manolo Walls!
