Why I'm Obsessed with Wallpaper

It’s no shock that I have a sick obsession with wallpaper. I’m trying hard to NOT wallpaper every single room in my home but it’s not working out for me. I’m sharing the basics on wallpaper and some papers I’m dying to use in my house or my next project.

One of the questions I get asked the most is about wallpaper. I feel like everyone is interested in it, but doesn’t even know where to start.

WHY SHOULD I WALLPAPER?

Wallpaper adds texture and interest to your walls, so you can design more effortlessly. It takes the “blank wall panic” out of the situation so you can have more simple and clean looking walls. Not to mention, it adds personality and a little fun to your home, without using as much decor.

*blank wall panic - when someone can’t handle a blank space in their home and has to fill every wall*

HOW SHOULD I MEASURE FOR WALLPAPER?

Don’t. Have a professional do it! I have some amazing contacts if you need them, just shoot me an email! However, to get an estimate on about how much you will need, look in the description of the wallpaper and see how many sqft. one roll covers.

There are a few different kinds of wallpaper that might work best for your situation.

REAL WALLPAPER

My favorite option. Endless options of styles, colors, and makers. You will need a wallpaper installer (always recommended) or you can watch some tutorials and brave it yourself (best of luck!!) My thought on this is, if you’re spending $$$ on wallpaper, don’t DIY it and mess it up. Just pay the extra $ and get it done right. IF it’s a small space like a nook, or a perfectly square wall with no cutouts, I would feel more comfortable DIYing.

SELF ADHESIVE

A more affordable option. You get the back of the wallpaper wet with water and the paste activates, then you hang on the wall. This is for sure DIY able, but not exactly easy. You can also use a wallpaper installer for this method.

PEEL AND STICK

The cheapest option, and sometimes a saving grace! It’s like a BIG sticker. This is a great option to start out with if you’re timid or not sure if you will “get sick of it”. I Personally love this option for little spaces that need a lot of help. I used a cheap peel and stick paper for the stairs going down to my basement because my walls were so textured and patchy (120 years old) that normal wallpaper would not have worked. I literally just needed something kind of cute to make the space more inviting + fun. Less options on prints and designs.
